The
TimeSlips creative storytelling method helps people with Alzheimer's
disease tap their imaginations to express their dreams, fears
and longings. By suspending the expectations to remember,
these storytelling workshops invite people with Alzheimer's
disease to hone what communication skills they retain.
Participants
will learn the meaning and value of creative expression, the
storytelling method itself, and ways to use storytelling as
a bridge between staff, families, clients and their communities
at large.
- To increase communication among people with Alzheimer's
disease and related dementia by creating an environment in
which play and imagination are encouraged and in which there
are no "wrong" answers
- To help personal and professional caregivers to connect
one-on-one with participants through the common goal of creativity
- To encourage respectful group interaction through
creativity to share the stories with caregiving staff, families
and possibly the community in order to deepen the awareness
of the potential of people with Alzheimer's disease and related
dementias
